Seakeeping

Computes linear motions of displacement monohulls in regular and irregular waves in deep water, by the strip theory of Salvesen, Tuck and Faltinsen as presented in Principles of Naval Architecture, Vol. III, without the original end corrections, with sectional coefficients from a two-dimensional panel solver. Forward speed is limited to Froude numbers up to 0.35 and is refused unless the hull's ends are confirmed as pointed. Supplementary roll damping is an assumed ratio, entered coefficients, or Ikeda's component method for even-keel hulls without bilge keels. The measured comparisons cover two modified Wigley hulls at zero speed in heave and pitch, and the forced heave of a short box-shaped body; the tool's Benchmarks & validation page states which of the Wigley comparison limits are met and which are not.

Input
A closed STL or OBJ hull mesh or a complete offsets CSV, or a built-in example; draughts, loading, mass inertia and wave conditions are entered in this tool.
Runs on
A current web browser, online or as a single file for offline use.
Licence
The OpenNAOE Tool Licence 1.0 for its own code: free to use, not to be modified or redistributed. Third-party components keep their own licences, listed in the tool's notices. Full terms

Changes since the archived version

The version on this site is newer than version 1.0.0, archived on Zenodo; the next archived version will include these changes.

This tool supports learning, teaching and early design exploration with documented numerical benchmarks and measured comparisons. The evidence defines its current scope and next validation steps; qualification for real-world engineering use remains to be completed.
